Folding carton die-board design

With the development of market economy, more and more folding carton applied in the field of commodity packaging, the carton box design has became increasingly prominent taste and quality of the products. In this case, the folding carton die-board design process becomes more important to improve the quality of the folding carton, The following factors will affect the die cutting quality:

1. The caliper of the cardboard

Only determined the caliper of the cardboard the basis of other parameters can be determined, such as the creasing line and the back cutter. Determine the caliper is actually choose what kind of cardboard, it is an important parameter for the designers, people usually use "weight " parameters to describ different cardboard. The caliper of the cardboard should decided by the products packaged in the box, usually there are 4 ways:

1) Customers: If customers have a ready-made samples, or they are familiar with the performance of cardboard, they can directly provide the type of cardboard.

2) The weight of product: Usually the heavier the product, the thicker the cardboard.

3) The size of the folding carton: Ususally the bigger size the carton box the thicker the cardboard.

4) In case unsure about anything mentioned above, we can make a a sample according to the actual weight of the packaged products, based on this adjusted paperboard material, or replace the folding carton box template.

2. Paper grain direction

Under normal circumstances, the paper grain direction should be perpendicular to the main creasing line of the carton box, that is, the paper grain direction should be perpendicular to the circumferential direction of box. In this way, the 4 surfaces of the box is very flat to avoid bulging phenomenon, it is conducive to the normal work of the carton in the high-speed automatic packaging line. When the carton size is relatively small, while the accuracy requirement is not too high, we can take advantage of the different arrangement step and repeat carton boxes as many as possible, in order to improve the utilization of cardboard, to minimize production costs, otherwise we should share knife and nesting step and repeat method to save cost.

3. The width of creasing line

The general creasing line width is 0.71mm, theoretically to obtain reasonable creasing line should accurately calculate the depth of the groove and the groove width of the bottom mold, bottom mold groove depth A ≥ cardboard thickness C, according to the formula (C ×l.5) + d draw the groove width of the bottom mold, where d is the width of the creasing line.

During the die-board design, it is necessary to take into account the role of the creasing knife, which making cardboard bending so that the size shrinks in the direction perpendicular to the creasing knife. In this case we can reserve a certain size, usually around 0.7mm (it can be increased appropriately with thicker cardboard).

4. Back cutter

Considering the caliper of the cardboard, in the overlapping part of the box should reserve for a certain size so that to ensure each face of the box more flat. The size of the back cutter should be selected according to the caliper of the cardboard, theoretically, it equals the caliper of the cardboard, but the actual value should be larger. The size of the back cutter too large or too small are inappropriate.

5. Glued flap

The glued flap design should bear in mind about 2 factors:

1) Position and size: The glued flap should be designed next to the box with larger panel for smoother transit in the gluer machine, the position should be facilitate the operator. The size of the glued flap should be according to the size of the box, generally under the principle of sticky firmly and save material.

2) Knife installation: General carton boxes are coated products, its relatively smooth surface, bond strength is not good for sticky firmly, then it need to install a certain number of knives with difference shapes to ensure gluing quality.

In short, the die-board design directly related to the appearance of the folding carton. Therefore, in order to improve the quality of the carton box, we select reasonable parameters discussed above according to different circumstances.
